Cycling

Rent a bicycle and pedal along heading for the finest summer mountain experiences. The entire area is criss-crossed by meandering trails and gravel roads just waiting to be discovered and explored.

Some of the routes lead you straight out into the wilderness; along rivers and brooks, through forests, to glittering lakes and tarns. Other trails run past villages and shielings. Have a stop on the riverbanks and look for beavers or select trails running through our areas that are rich in wildlife. For some of the routes we recommend that you bring fishing gear; here are many lakes that is rich in fish and are easy to reach by bike.

Bikes are rented out in many places. The next thing to do is to buy the biking map with detailed descriptions of 13 routes of varying degrees of difficulty and distances. Then set off on one of the finest routes to the next great family adventure. A well-stocked picnic hamper is a given ingredient on the tour.
There are magnificent biking routes awaiting; sometimes running through thrilling forests, along bubbling brooks, and past glittering lakes and tarns. Other routes lead through open cultural landscape past the villages that form part of the destination, to actively farmed shielings and well-kept, summer meadows with a greatly varied flora. All of them offer exciting excursions through the mountains at their best in the summer.

Most of the routes presented in our biking map are gentle cross-country trails. The trails run on ground ranging over the whole spectre from forest paths to tarmac roads. You will also find some tough and demanding challenges when sorting through the suggestions in the biking map.

The summer farming culture has an important role in the history and culture at the destination. You will encounter it during the pleasant tour starting at Turistinformationen in Klövsjö. The route runs on a gravel road, initially uphill. We suggest you stop at the neck of the hill to admire the magnificent views over the prettiest fells village in Sweden, Klövsjö and of the surrounding peaks and wilderness. Pedal on toward the garden centre Assemyrvallens Handelsträdgård for the floral display, the wooden sculptures and small café. We also suggest a stop at Kullbodarna, the shieling with grazing cows and goats during the summer. A few kilometres later will see you back in Klövsjö – and what could be more appropriate than a visit to the bakery Klövsjö Stenugnsbageri for a lovely fika or lunch. This family tour measures 18 km and with its relative absence of hills is suitable for all the family members.

Another tour with a suggestion of shieling culture leads to Johankölen, a summer farm in use since the 1700s. The tour is graded as intermediary, starting from Stenugnsbageriet in Klövsjö, where you can rent bikes, with a length of just over 20 km. During the month of July, the shieling is open for spontaneous visits on Mondays. The name of the shieling maid is Anna and she is happy to tell the visitors about shieling life in the old days and presently. Visits on other days of the week shall be booked in advance.

As already mentioned, there are various tours, some leading to fine beaches, others past campfire sites but they all share the magic framework of summer in the scenic mountains. The biking guide can be ordered in the web shop.

Bikes are rented out by Skistarshop Concept Store at Vemdalsskalet and in Klövsjö at Klövsjö Stenugnsbageri.
