Vemdalen mountain marathon

In Vemdalen’s mountain marathon you can run 44, 24 or 11 kilometers. Whatever you choose, August 17th might be your best day for running in 2019. Mountain experiences are not measured in kilometers.

It was summer 2015 Petter Bromée and Joakim Nordlund began planning for the premiere of Vemdalen Fjällmaraton. And everything is actually all because their bikes broke down:
– So we started running on the mountain instead. Something we really didn´t like. But it became an “aha” experience: this is really fun! This should more people experience.

Soon afterwards, the idea of creating the Vemdalen mountain marathon was born and since then the two have been running a lot in the fells, detailed maps, planned track stretches, spoken with landowners and contacted potential sponsors. The absolute majority of the three stretches are existing trails and tracks. And to make sure that no one will get lost, all stretches will be marked. In addition, around 40 functionaries and guards will be on the fells during the competition day, August 25th.

The longest distance measures 44 km with a height of 1600 meters, and is a bit longer than a classic marathon. Three “mountain prizes” are awarded and there are five stations for food and drink.

The half marathon is 24 km long, the altitude difference is 900 meters, two mountain prices are awarded and at three stations there are food and drinks.

The quartz marathons is 11 km and winds up and down near the Vemdalsskalet ski area with the Skalstoppen as the highest point. The number of height meters is 500. Two mountain prices are awarded and the energy deposits can be replenished on two occasions. This year there will also be a children’s class.
